From English to Swedish 2 is an intermediate Swedish textbook for English speaking students covering level A2 of the European CEFR-scale. It is a direct sequel of From English to Swedish 1 by the same authors. Pronunciation help on YouTube is now available also for the second book (see https: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvHrIgXzBY0).

The first book tells the story of an American exchange student, Ashley Chapman, and her Swedish host family, the Lundstr ms. In this book readers continue to follow Ashley through the second half of her exchange year, during which she learns more about the Swedish society and visits several of the larger cities in the country. She also continues to observe, analyze, and discuss differences in culture and mentality between Swedes and Americans.

With the help the two books students acquire a total vocabulary of slightly more than 1,500 words including 57 % of the 2,000 most frequent words of the Swedish language as defined by Spr kbanken (the Language Bank), a data base published by the University of Gothenburg. A glossary listing the complete vocabulary is included at the end of this book. Furthermore, the book contains exercises which help students develop the skill of guessing the meaning of many more words, which are of common origin to English and Swedish or have been imported from English to Swedish during the last 200 years.

The grammar sections of the book cover all forms of the Swedish verb. Other themes, such as the logical relationship between sub-clauses and main clauses and the use of prepositions, are also included, as well as advice on how to address the Swedes. A final grammar overview provides explanations of grammatical terms with references to relevant grammar sections.

Each lesson includes a number of exercises, where students are encouraged to practice their newly gained grammar knowledge, repeat vocabulary, and answer questions in connection with the texts. As the students' vocabulary develops, the questions become increasingly open in order to stimulate discussion in class. Finally, some traditional Swedish songs are included with printed music, lyrics and guitar chords.

Judgment about From English to Swedish 2:

"From English to Swedish 2 is a very well-composed and pedagogic text book which is ideal for international students, who have different mother tongues but use English as a lingua franca. The book contains a suitable mix of enjoyable, informative and often funny texts, grammatical explanations in English, and varying exercises with instructions in English, as well as useful lists of vocabulary." (Gun Lystedt, Assistant Professor of Swedish, Ume University, Sweden)
