About the Author

Boyd Norton travels extensively in documenting the world’s wild places and environmental issues, a specialty he has pursued as a photographer and writer for over forty-five years. For most of his photographic and writing career, Norton has devoted a great amount of time to conservation issues and the preservation of wilderness and wildlife worldwide. He played a key role in establishment of several wilderness areas in the Rocky Mountains, new national parks in Alaska, and in the designation of Siberia’s Lake Baikal as a World Heritage Site. Among his many awards, he received commendation from the Environmental Protection Agency, presented by Robert Redford, for his “important, exciting environmental photography and writing.” Norton was also selected as “One of the 40 most influential nature photographers from around the globe” by Outdoor Photography Magazine U.K. Norton’s articles and photo essays have appeared in most major magazines, and he is the author-photographer of sixteen books. When he’s not in the wilds of Borneo or Siberia or Africa, he calls Evergreen, Colorado home. He lives with his wife, Barbara, and two Asian leopard cats.
