About the Author

Michelle Lai, MD, MPH is hepatologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, one of the top liver health centers in the country, and an Assistant Professor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She takes care of patients with liver diseases and is working on clinical research in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. She has published articles on viral hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, liver transplantation, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and noninvasive evaluation of liver diseases. In her free time, she is an avid cook. She earned her Bachelors of Arts in Biology from Harvard University and her MD and Masters in Public Health from Columbia University. She completed her internal medicine, gastroenterology and transplant hepatology training all at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Asha R Kasaraneni, MSc, RD, LDN, CNSC (earned Bachelors in Science from Leeds Metropolitan University, England) and a Masters degree from Northumbria University, England, and later attended Simmons College in Boston. She completed a dietetic internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA where she was hired upon graduation in 2006. She is a Registered Dietitian and licensed in MA as well as a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician awarded by ASPEN (American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition). She started working in the Transplant Institute with liver, kidney, and pancreas transplant and non-transplant hepatobiliary patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She has several years of experience working with patients both pre and post transplant stages, providing recommendations for dietary modifications and artificial nutrition.
